Chris Butler is an author, artist and illustrator based in Liverpool, UK. He received his first professional commission at the age of seventeen when Space Voyager magazine hired him to illustrate three interviews with cast members from the cult science fiction series Doctor Who.
Chris first encountered the Tarot at the age of thirteen through watching a James Bond movie. His fascination for the cards has stayed with him for over forty years, inspiring him to create several decks of his own. His first published tarot deck was the Quantum Tarot, illustrated for author Kay Stopforth (Kunati Books 2008). A new version of this deck, Quantum Tarot 2.0 was published by Lo Scarabeo in 2010. Lo Scarabeo have also published The Healing Light Tarot in 2017, the Healing Light Lenormand in 2019 and the Oracle of the Hekatean Path, illustrated for author Kenn Payne in 2024.
For Schiffer Books, Chris has authored/illustrated The Son Tarot: Mysticism, Meditation and Divination for Gay Men, published in 2012, and the Lenormand Cartomancy deck and book set published in December 2013.
Chris is a regular conference speaker and workshop facilitator, having presented for the UK Tarot Conference, the Tarot Association of the British Isles, the World Divination Association and Esotoracle Live. He teaches Tarot via his Youtube channel and in person, through solo and collaborative workshops.
Chris holds a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Heythrop College, University of London. He is also the recipient of a Kindred Spirit Award, being voted “Favourite Artist for 2013” by readers of Kindred Spirit Magazine.
